Mount Desert Medical Center
Mount Desert Medical Center is a non-profit organization founded by local citizens in 1966 to assure that the citizens of Mount Desert would continue to have local access to medical and dental care. A building was built on donated land in 1967 with monies raised locally through efforts of year-round residents and the summer community. The organization has a volunteer board of directors whose responsibilities include maintaining the building, grounds and assuring that its mission is met by securing medical professionals who will provide primary care and ancillary services.
In 2022 following the closure of medical offices due to COVID, the board undertook a significant renovation of the medical suite of offices so that MDI Hospital could once again open a year-round primary care clinic which opened August 2023. Additional renovations have since been completed to accommodate our clinicians with private practices. The NEH Ambulance Association continues to rent space at the Center.
